Ben Hanley - Profile

2008 will see Ben graduate into the Formula One feeder category GP2, the Championship race weekends are contested as support races to the European Formula One events.

In what will only be Ben's forth year of single seater car racing, Ben will be driving for the Spanish, Barwa International Campos Team.

During the 30 minute test this morning Ben struggled with what turned out to be a gearbox bearing failiure, the team worked flat out to repair the car and finished only moments before the qualifying session began. Ben qualified in 12th position, but will start race 1 from grid 22 because of the penalty inccured in Barcelona.

Ben had received many offers in both Karts and Cars, but decided to continue with the Maranello Race Team. Ben once again won the season opener, the Winter Cup, and also won the Margutti Trophy. The European Championship - heading into the final race it was still possible for Ben to win. Everything looked foo only to be taken out of the race by another driver when leading the final, the result of which left Ben 7th overall. In September Ben looked certain to win the World Championship, until while leading the pre-final with 3 laps remaining the engine broke. Ben was eventually classified 6th.

With the cancellation of the top flight category (Formula Super 'A'), Ben was asked to compete in the Formula 'A' category for the Maranello Racing Kart Team as their official driver. The year began with some technical problems but towards the end of the season Ben was again winning races and finished 3rd in the European and World Championships, and 5th at the Asia Pacific Championship in Japan.

Ben was asked to move into the World Premiere Category (Formula Super 'A') which comprised of the top twenty four drivers and manufacturing teams. Ben chose to race with the relatively new team Maranello Racing Kart Team. At the first race of the year Ben immediately impressed by finishing second in his first ever race in the top flight, but was to suffer from reliability and engine failure throughout the rest of the year, finishing fourteenth in the World Championships.
